Five programmatic pieces composed in 1926. Each depicts an outdoor scene with brilliant pianistic invention: With Drums and Pipes, Barcarolla, Musettes, Night Music (Bartók's famous \"night sounds\" effect — insects, frogs, nocturnal calls), and The Chase. Night Music became the template for an entire style of atmospheric writing.
