Suite, Op. 14, Sz. 62
by Bela Bartok
Four-movement suite composed in 1916 and published 1918. Bartók's most compact modernist statement for piano: percussive, motorically driven, and harmonically astringent. Influenced by Stravinsky and North African music he had recently encountered. A cornerstone of the 20th-century piano repertoire.
