Two evocative nature pieces (composed 1921, published 1922) inspired by the song of the hermit thrush — a bird Beach observed at her summer retreat in Centerville, Massachusetts. The thrush's actual melodic motifs are woven into both pieces. Among the most frequently recorded of all her piano works.
