Eleven Chorale Preludes, Op. 122
Brahms's last completed compositions, written in the summer of 1896 during his final illness. These intimate chorale preludes for organ distill a lifetime of contrapuntal mastery into miniatures of extraordinary tenderness and resignation. The final two settings of Herzlich tut mich verlangen and O Welt, ich muß dich lassen are among the most moving pages in all of Brahms.
