Bourrée fantasque
Solo piano piece composed in April 1891, one of Chabrier's last major works and widely regarded as his piano masterpiece. A fantastical bourrée drawing on the dance rhythms of his native Auvergne, subjected to explosive harmonic treatment and pianistic writing of extraordinary brilliance and wit. Dedicated to Édouard Risler; the premiere was given by Madeleine Jaeger at the Société Nationale de Musique on 7 January 1893 — after Chabrier's illness had progressed too far for public performance. Ravel later made an orchestration. Duration approximately 6–7 minutes.
