Trois valses romantiques

by Emmanuel Chabrier

Composed 1880–1883
Published 1883
Works 3

Three waltzes for two pianos, begun c.1880 and completed by the summer of 1883; published 1883. The first waltz in D major is the shortest and most brilliant; the second in E major is calmer and more lyrical; the third, completed last, is the most expansive and harmonically adventurous. Among the most significant works for two pianos in the French repertoire, they combine Chabrier's characteristic harmonic boldness with the momentum and glitter of the concert waltz. Frequently performed by duo-pianist teams and a cornerstone of the two-piano repertoire.
