L'Art de toucher le clavecin

by Francois Couperin

Published 1717
Works 9

Harpsichord method book, first published 1716 (immediately revised and reissued 1717). Beyond its text on technique, ornamentation, touch, and fingering, it contains eight unmeasured preludes — each in the key of one of Couperin's first two books — and an Allemande illustrating the Italianate style. The ornament table in this treatise is the definitive primary source for interpreting Couperin's agréments. Admired by J.S. Bach. Freely available on IMSLP.
