Four Piano Pieces, Op. 2
Four solo piano pieces composed in 1897, Dohnányi's first significant published works for solo piano. The set comprises a Scherzo in C♯ minor, two Intermezzos (A minor and F minor), and a Capriccio in B minor. Written in the tradition of Brahms's late piano pieces but with a more extroverted brilliance, they reveal a young composer already at ease with large-scale keyboard writing and a highly personal sense of lyricism. A fine entry point into Dohnányi's solo piano output.
