Ten bagatelles for piano, Op. 13, composed 1905. Each piece bears a descriptive title and represents a character in a sociable winter gathering: Widmung (Dedication), Marsch der lustigen Brüder (March of the Merry Fellows), An Ada, Freund Viktors Mazurka, Sphärenmusik, Valse aimable, Um Mitternacht (At Midnight), Tolle Gesellschaft (Wild Company), Morgengrauen (Dawn), and Postludium. The set is an early example of the character-piece cycle in Hungarian music — charming, witty, and intimate in scale — and shows Dohnányi's gift for musical portraiture and light touch in miniature forms.
