Trois Préludes (Three Preludes)

Three preludes for solo piano composed across fifteen years: No.1 'D'ombre et de silence' (Of shadow and silence, 1973), No.2 'Sur un même accord' (On one chord, 1977), No.3 'Le jeu des contraires' (The game of opposites, 1988). Each is a concentrated world of its own — the first luminous and suspended, the second building obsessively from a single harmonic cell, the third balancing contrasted materials against each other. Together they show the full range of Dutilleux's mature piano style. Duration approximately 10 minutes.
