Dumka and Furiant, Op. 12 (B. 136–137)
Two contrasted character pieces — a Dumka in C minor and a Furiant in G minor — composed in 1884 and published together. The pairing embodies the central emotional polarity of Dvořák's Czech nationalism: the melancholy, alternating moods of the dumka set against the fierce cross-rhythms of the furiant.
