Piano Concerto No. 3 in E-flat major
by John Field
Piano Concerto No. 3 in E♭ major (H. 32), composed 1811. Like the Second, it shows Field's mature concerto style at full strength: flowing melodic lines in the piano, lightly textured orchestral writing, and a slow movement of great lyrical beauty. The E♭ major key links it to the First Concerto, and the two make a natural pair. Less frequently performed than the Second or the Seventh, but a rewarding work of consistent charm and melodic invention.
