Piano Concerto No. 4 in E-flat major
by John Field
Piano Concerto No. 4 in E♭ major (H. 29), composed c.1814. Field's fourth concerto continues the aesthetic of the second and third — lyrical, melodically generous, and with a singing tone throughout — while showing slightly more elaboration in the solo writing. The slow movement is particularly notable for its ornamented melodic line, a foretaste of the nocturne writing of Field's middle period. A warmly appealing work that rewards discovery.
