The five last sonatas composed in the 1790s, partly for the London pianist Therese Jansen. These are Haydn's most ambitious keyboard works, showing mastery of the expanded fortepiano and an extraordinary harmonic imagination. Hob. XVI:52 in E-flat is his undisputed masterpiece for the instrument.
