25 Études, Op. 47

by Stephen Heller

Catalogue op 47
Composed 1844
Published 1845
Works 25

The most accessible of Heller's three principal étude collections, Op. 47's 25 studies are designed for early-intermediate players and serve as an ideal introduction to Heller's expressive world before the more demanding Op. 45 and 46. Composed and published 1844–1845, they maintain the same fundamental philosophy as the other sets — each study is a character piece addressing a specific skill — but the technical demands are more carefully graduated, making them appropriate for students who have not yet reached the challenges of Op. 45's L'Avalanche or Op. 46's more complex textures. Teachers frequently begin with Op. 47, then progress to Op. 46 and Op. 45.
