Concertino for Piano and Chamber Ensemble, JW 7/11
by Leoš Janáček
Four-movement concertino for piano solo and chamber ensemble (2 violins, viola, clarinet, horn, bassoon) composed 1925. One of Janáček's most enchanting late works, with each instrument taking a distinct personality. Movements: I. Moderato, II. Più mosso, III. Con moto, IV. Allegro. The piano dominates throughout but engages in vivid dialogue with each instrument in turn — the duet with the horn in the first movement is particularly striking. Duration approximately 18 minutes.
