Three-movement work for cello and piano composed 1910 and revised 1912, 1913, and 1923. Inspired by Vasily Zhukovsky's poem about Tsar Berendey and his son. Three movements: I. Con moto, II. Con moto, III. Con moto. The lyrical cello line sings Moravian-flavoured melodies over a richly textured piano part. One of Janáček's most approachable chamber works and frequently performed. Duration approximately 11 minutes.
