Six Organ Sonatas, Op. 65
Six organ sonatas composed in 1844–45 at the request of the English publisher Coventry and Hollier. Drawing on Bach's contrapuntal tradition and Mendelssohn's own lyrical Romanticism, they are the most important organ sonatas of the 19th century and a cornerstone of the Romantic organ repertoire.
