Catalogue d'Oiseaux
Thirteen pieces for solo piano in seven books, composed October 1956 – September 1958. Each piece depicts a specific French bird within its regional landscape, capturing dozens of surrounding birds, the changing light, temperature, and atmosphere of each locale. Approximately three hours in performance — the longest solo piano work in the repertoire. Dedicated to Yvonne Loriod.
