Petites Esquisses d'Oiseaux
Six brief bird sketches for piano composed in 1985, Messiaen's last completed solo piano work. Three movements are devoted to the Robin, with the Blackbird, Song Thrush, and Skylark completing the set. Written in a lyrical, accessible idiom that distils his mature harmonic language. Dedicated to Yvonne Loriod.
