Piano Concerto No. 3, Op. 270
Piano Concerto No. 3, Op. 270, composed 1946 after Milhaud's return to France following the Liberation. Among the most substantial of his piano concertos, with a broader emotional range than the earlier two. The post-war context lends the music a quality of recovery and affirmation that distinguishes it from the more introspective wartime works. Three movements, compact in form, with the characteristic Milhaud qualities of rhythmic energy, polytonal harmony, and Mediterranean warmth.
