Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas

by Astor Piazzolla

Composed 1965–1970
Works 4

The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires — four tangos composed for Piazzolla's Quintet Nuevo Tango (violin, piano, electric guitar, double bass, bandoneón) between 1965 and 1970. Though conceived as independent pieces and initially released separately, they are now universally performed and recorded as a cycle. The adjective 'porteño' (of Buenos Aires) signals that these are not meteorological seasons but emotional portraits of life in the Argentine capital.
