Works 15

Fifteen improvisations for piano composed over nearly thirty years (1932-1959). The first ten (FP 63) were composed 1932-1934; Nos. 11-12 (FP 113) in 1941; Nos. 13-14 (FP 170) in 1958; and No. 15 (FP 176, 'Hommage a Edith Piaf') in 1959. Despite the title, they are carefully crafted works ranging from the piquant and witty to the deeply lyrical. Together they form a revealing diary of Poulenc's pianistic imagination across three stylistic decades, and include some of his most beloved short pieces.
