Trois novelettes, FP 15/16/173

Three novelettes composed at different periods: Nos. 1 (FP 15, 1927) and 2 (FP 16, 1928) were written close together as pendant pieces; No. 3 (FP 173) was added in 1958, some thirty years later, giving the collection an unusual biographical arc. No. 1 in C major is light and transparent; No. 2 slightly darker; No. 3, from Poulenc's late period, carries more weight and introspection.
