Trois Gymnopédies
by Erik Satie
Satie's most famous works, composed in 1888. Three slow, modal pieces in triple metre with a deliberately static, archaic quality — named after an ancient Greek festival. Their influence on Impressionism, Minimalism, and ambient music has been incalculable. Debussy orchestrated Nos. 1 and 3.
