3 Klavierstücke (Three Piano Pieces, 1894)
Three early piano pieces composed in 1894 when Schoenberg was a largely self-taught composer of 20. Published posthumously in 1969 as part of the Gesamtausgabe. Still in a late-Romantic tonal language influenced by Brahms, they offer a revealing starting point for understanding Schoenberg's development. Frequently programmed alongside the mature opus works to trace the arc from Brahms to atonality.
