3 Klavierstücke (Three Piano Pieces), Op. 11
Three piano pieces composed 1909, one of the most historically significant sets in the entire piano literature. Schoenberg's first freely atonal piano works — and among the first atonal works by any composer. No key signatures, no tonal centres, no resolution of dissonance in the traditional sense. No. 1 (Mäßig bewegt) is the most approachable; No. 2 (Mäßig) the most Romantic in feeling; No. 3 (Bewegt) the most turbulent. Together they announced a new era. Duration approximately 12–14 minutes.
