6 Kleine Klavierstücke (6 Little Piano Pieces), Op. 19
Six aphoristic piano miniatures composed 1911, immediately after Mahler's death. The final piece (No. 6, Sehr langsam) is a direct response to hearing funeral bells at Mahler's Vienna memorial ceremony. Each piece is a compressed world — some last under a minute. The most economical and accessible of Schoenberg's piano sets, they were the direct model for Webern's subsequent extremism of brevity. Duration approximately 7 minutes.
