Setting of Byron's poem for piano, string quartet, and reciter, composed 1942. A deliberately political work, composed after America's entry into World War II, condemning tyranny. The piano part is prominent throughout, with demanding passagework alongside the strings. Later arranged for string orchestra. Duration approximately 15 minutes.
