Klavierkonzert (Piano Concerto), Op. 42
Piano concerto composed 1942, Schoenberg's most substantial work involving the piano as solo instrument. In four linked movements (Andante, Molto Allegro, Adagio, Giocoso). The concerto uses twelve-tone technique but with a lyrical, almost Romantic surface. Glenn Gould's advocacy brought it to wider attention. Duration approximately 20 minutes.
