Three Fantastic Dances, Op. 5
Shostakovich's earliest published piano work, composed at age 15–16. Three miniatures — a march, a waltz, and a polka — witty and light-footed, showing early influences of Chopin and French neo-classicism. Despite their apparent simplicity they established Shostakovich's gift for sharp rhythmic character and ironic humor.
