Cinco danzas gitanas, Serie 2, Op. 84
Five gypsy dances for piano solo, second series, composed in 1934 and premiered in Madrid on March 8, 1935. The five dances — Fiesta de las calderas, Circulos ritmicos, Invocacion, Danza ritmica, Seguiriya — continue the exploration of Andalusian and Gypsy dance styles begun in Op. 55. The Seguiriya, named for the gravest and most ceremonial of the deep song (cante jondo) forms, closes the second series with appropriate solemnity.
