Symphonie Gothique, Op. 70
Widor's ninth organ symphony, inspired by the architecture and acoustics of Gothic cathedrals. Built on the Christmas plainchant 'Puer natus est,' it represents a turn toward a more austere, architectonic style. The third movement Andante is a sublime meditation on the chant melody.
