Biography

The supreme master of Baroque counterpoint and one of the most consequential composers in Western history. Bach's keyboard output encompasses the Well-Tempered Clavier (48 preludes and fugues in all keys), the Goldberg Variations, the Partitas, English Suites, French Suites, Inventions, Sinfonias, and the Art of Fugue. Though his music was little performed in the decades after his death, it was rediscovered in the 19th century and has since become the foundation of keyboard pedagogy and a touchstone for every subsequent generation of composers.
