Biography

A keyboard virtuoso of legendary skill, Bull pushed the technical boundaries of keyboard writing further than any contemporary. His works in the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book include dazzlingly complex variations, hexachord fantasias, and the famous Walsingham variations. His virtuosic writing anticipates keyboard techniques that would not become common until the Baroque era. He spent his later career in the Netherlands, where he influenced the North German organ school.
