Biography
Successor to Chambonnières as claveciniste du roi, d'Anglebert published a single magnificent collection of Pièces de clavecin (1689) that represents the summit of the French Baroque keyboard style before Couperin. His suites feature richly ornamented unmeasured preludes, elaborate arrangements of Lully opera airs, and a comprehensive table of ornaments that became a standard reference. His music demands exceptional taste in ornamentation and rhythmic flexibility.
