Biography
A legendary virtuoso and improviser who succeeded Widor at Saint-Sulpice, Dupré was the first organist to perform the complete organ works of Bach from memory. His compositions — including the Preludes and Fugues (Op. 7), Symphonie-Passion, and Le Chemin de la Croix — combine rigorous counterpoint with Romantic expressivity. As a teacher at the Paris Conservatoire, he trained an entire generation of organists including Messiaen, Langlais, and Jehan Alain.
