Biography

One of the most forward-looking pianists and composers of the late Classical era, Dussek anticipated Romantic harmony, texture, and formal ambiguity by several decades. His large-scale sonatas and his use of the sustaining pedal as a structural device influenced Beethoven and Schubert. The elegy-like The Sufferings of the Queen of France and his late sonata L'Invocation are particularly remarkable works.
