Biography

A French pianist, pedagogue, and prolific composer of études who taught at the Paris Conservatoire for over three decades. Duvernoy is best remembered for the studies he wrote for his students — particularly the École du Mécanisme, Op. 120 and the 25 Études Élémentaires, Op. 176, which remain widely used at the elementary and early-intermediate levels. His writing combines clear technical objectives with melodic charm, making his studies more musically satisfying than the dry exercises of many contemporaries.
