Biography

The most significant Spanish composer of the 20th century, Falla fused Andalusian flamenco with French Impressionist technique and Classical formal discipline. His Fantasia Baetica (1919) — written for Artur Rubinstein — is the most demanding of his piano works, a large-scale evocation of deep southern Spain. Noches en los jardines de Espana for piano and orchestra and the Harpsichord Concerto show the range of his harmonic imagination.
