Biography

The dominant Italian keyboard composer of the early Baroque, Frescobaldi served as organist at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome for most of his career. His toccatas, fantasias, and ricercars defined a generation of keyboard style and influenced every major composer who followed, most notably through Johann Jakob Froberger who studied with him directly. His collection Fiori musicali (1635) was treasured by Bach.
