Biography

The leading Argentine classical composer, Ginastera moved through three stylistic periods — objective nationalism, subjective nationalism, and neo-Expressionism. His Piano Sonata No. 1 (1952) and Twelve American Preludes (1944) draw on Argentine folk idioms within demanding 20th-century technical frameworks. His three piano sonatas and piano concertos are among the most significant Latin American contributions to the concert repertoire.
