Biography

Widely regarded as the most technically sophisticated composer-arranger for the piano who ever lived, Godowsky's 53 Studies on the Chopin Etudes rework Chopin's already demanding originals into transcriptions of almost incomprehensible complexity, many written for the left hand alone. His Java Suite and Triakontameron contain original works of remarkable beauty alongside the technical extremism. Busoni called his left-hand studies the most extraordinary thing ever written for the piano.
