Biography

A pianist and composer who occupies an important pedagogical position between the etudes of Czerny and the artistic demands of Chopin and Schumann, Heller composed over 150 opus numbers of piano music including etudes, character pieces, and salon works. His studies (Opp. 45, 46, 47) are standard teaching repertoire. Schumann championed his music in the Neue Zeitschrift fur Musik and considered him a true artist rather than merely a pedagogue.
