Biography

A French pianist and pedagogue who taught for nearly fifty years at the Paris Conservatoire, Le Couppey is best known today for L'Alphabet, Op. 17 — a set of twenty-five short pieces (one per letter, omitting J) designed to introduce young students to varied keys, characters, and figurations. His pedagogical writings, including L'Art d'enseigner le piano, were influential across nineteenth-century French piano teaching.
