Biography

A German Baroque composer and organist whose music was preserved largely through inclusion in J.S. Bach's Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach — most famously the two Minuets BWV Anh. 114 (G major) and BWV Anh. 115 (G minor), long misattributed to Bach himself until 1970s scholarship identified Petzold as their author. He served as court organist in Dresden under Augustus the Strong, and most of his original compositions are now lost.
