Biography

The revolutionary who transformed the Argentine tango from dance music into concert art, Piazzolla studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris who encouraged him to embrace his tango roots rather than abandon them for European Neoclassicism. His tangos — Libertango, Oblivion, Adios Nonino, the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires — exist in numerous piano arrangements and have become staples of the contemporary piano repertoire. His original works for piano include the Suite Troileana and Tres minutos con la realidad.
