Biography

One of the last great Romantic composers and arguably the greatest pianist-composer of the 20th century, Rachmaninoff's four piano concertos (especially Nos. 2 and 3), two piano sonatas, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Corelli Variations, and two sets of Etudes-Tableaux are cornerstones of the concert repertoire. His large hands and legendary technical command shaped a piano style of sweeping melody, rich inner voices, and formidable physical demands.
