Biography

A prodigious polymath who was reading Latin at three and performing publicly at five, Saint-Saens composed five piano concertos (No. 2 in G minor and No. 4 in C minor are the most performed), the Carnival of the Animals, and numerous solo piano works. His style is elegant, craftsmanly, and Classical in orientation — he was a committed opponent of the harmonic adventurism of Wagner and Debussy.
