Biography

Schubert's piano output — two great sonatas in C major and Bb major (D. 840, D. 960), the Wanderer Fantasy, four Impromptus (D. 899), four more (D. 935), and six Moments Musicaux — represents one of Romantic music's most personal bodies of work. His harmonic language moves in unexpected directions, his melodies are of unparalleled beauty, and his sense of large-scale form is highly individual. He died at 31.
